Working Towards Our Purpose is back! In this first episode of 2026, episode 79, I talk about not having it all figured out. If you’re starting off the new year feeling the same way, this episode is for you.
The Pressure to Have All the Answers
As I was heading into the new year, I was thinking about my podcast, trying to nail down my target audience, plan out the content to speak to that audience, and really push the podcast forward. But I began to realize that I still don’t know who my target audience is. I also realized I was putting a lot of pressure on myself to know exactly who it should be. I took the last 6 months and put out 40 episodes with the goal of having those answers by the end of the year, but I simply did not. Recently, I had a pretty rough day of being stuck in my head with negative thought cycles and imposter syndrome, until I had a breakthrough conversation and realized that I needed to let go.
Letting Go & Refocusing on Your Why
I had to let go of the idea that I had it all figured out. One of the biggest things that helped me was letting go of what I thought I “should” know and instead refocusing on why I started this podcast in the first place. That was to discuss purpose, mental health, and being your authentic self. By letting go of the idea that I should be somewhere else, it allowed me to stop feeling like I was behind. I was able to refocus on what mattered instead of what I thought mattered, which led to feeling confident about my podcast instead of feeling like an impostor.
Embracing Mini Redirections
It’s okay not to have it all planned out. Sometimes you need to step back, let things keep marinating, and wait until it truly feels right. Making a small redirection can help to make sure you are going down a path that feels authentic. It’s okay to change your mind and to see what makes more sense for you in the moment.
