Rediscovering Purpose: Music, Change, and Trusting the Journey

After a hiatus, Working Towards Our Purpose returns, reflecting on life pivots, the transformative power of music, and the courage to follow one’s true calling.

Embracing the Unfiltered Return

After a significant break,  Working Towards Our Purpose Podcast is back, and with it comes a wave of honesty and change. I opens up about both personal and professional transitions, signaling a new chapter for the podcast and for me personally. This refreshed approach leans into shorter episodes, solo episodes, no edits, and more authenticity, offering a more candid look into the deeply personal process of pursuing purpose.

Gone, for now, are the carefully edited, guest-filled episodes. Instead, I’m inviting into a space where stream-of-consciousness and vulnerability guide the narrative. It’s about letting go of the need for perfection and simply starting.

Music as a Lifeline

At the heart of this episode lies music. A passion that has quietly persisted throughout my  life. From first picking up the guitar in high school to increasingly making music a central part of my life now, music has been a faithful source of meaning and joy. Yet, up until now, this passion has mostly been kept private.

A recent conversation with a close friend encouraged me to start sharing their music more openly. Facing fears of judgment and vulnerability head on. I speak candidly about my decision to lean into music not just as a hobby, but as a crucial pillar of my identity and sense of purpose.

Music is more than just a creative outlet, it’s a manifestation of aliveness, happiness, and true fulfillment. The journey towards integrating music into daily life, despite it not being lucrative, is a reminder that value cannot always be measured in dollars, but in joy and alignment with self.

Letting Go to Move Forward

Change is the through line of this episode. I share openly about leaving a job and closing out a business that no longer serves me, a decision rooted in self-respect and the desire for greater happiness. It’s a leap of trust into the unknown, made easier by the knowledge that avoiding change was leading to unhappiness and stagnation.

This transition is not without its anxieties,  especially with nothing else concrete lined up, but it offers the possibility of authentic self-discovery. Letting go of security can make space for purpose and new forms of fulfillment.

Turning Dreams into Reality

A powerful practice described in this episode is envisioning one’s ideal life. Getting specific about how we want to spend our days, regardless of external constraints. I shares my own process: reflecting, journaling, and reading books about manifesting dreams and setting achievable goals.

For me, dream-life means prioritizing music, writing, and this podcast. I have a goal of releasing a new single for every month of 2025.

This year, that commitment is bearing fruit. With half a dozen songs completed, each one marks growth in writing, recording, and mixing. The incremental approach transforms lofty dreams into tangible, rewarding steps.

The Challenge and Necessity of Sharing

One of the most vulnerable admissions is the ongoing fear of sharing music. I discuss the internal resistance, worrying about perception and criticism is a normal part of any artists journey but yet I recognize that by hiding my art is doing a disservice not just to their own journey, but to those who might connect with what I have created.

Being open about creative pursuits, and making space for others to witness them. It’s a message for all who hesitate to share their gifts, the world is better for it, and so are we.

Looking Ahead: Nurturing Purpose

As I look to the future, the focus is on sustainability. Crafting a podcast that has a format that avoids burnout and allows for personal growth. The comming episodes will explore goal-setting, self-discovery, and the lessons from transformative books that I am reading. The podcast will be a place not just to share things I’ve learned but to also share the journey.

Underlying it all is the belief in choosing oneself, standing up for what brings joy, trusting the unfolding path, and welcoming evolution. You are invited along for this unfolding journey, grounded in honesty and the quest for a life lived in alignment with  purpose.
